Saint Anne School celebrated National Catholic Schools Week during the week of January 27 through February 2. The week’s theme — “Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.” — highlighted the school’s focus on faith development, academic excellence and dedication to community service.
Throughout the week, students in all grades worked on service projects which benefit the local and extended community. For example, the first graders sponsored a lemonade stand to support the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, which raises funds for research, awareness, and to support families of children fighting cancer. Additionally, the fifth grade class held a food drive during the weeks leading up to the “Big Game” called the Souper Bowl of Caring: Help to Tackle Hunger. All non-perishable food items were donated to the Saint Winifred Food Pantry.
Tuesday, January 29th is a day that many students at Saint Anne School won’t soon forget. Why? Because as part of its Catholic Schools Week celebration, Bishop Zubik stopped by to visit the school! After some initial “jitters” brought on by his presence, the students were put at ease by the Bishop’s kind words and warm spirit. The students were happy to share stories and answer questions as Bishop Zubik visited each classroom. The 5th - 8th grade students eagerly shared the details of a service project they were working on for Project Linus, an organization that provides blankets for children in need. The Bishop watched and learned how each blanket was made!
Following the tour of the school, Bishop Zubik led the 4th-8th grade students in Eucharistic Adoration and then stayed for a special reception where the Bishop once again graciously visited with all of the students. During the reception the students presented Bishop Zubik with a Spiritual Bouquet to thank him for taking the time to visit the school during Catholic Schools Week!
