Dear Parents,

Happy Fall!  The kids did a great job holding it together on those few very hot days we had, but I know we are all glad they’re over.

Coming up…

OCTOBER CALENDAR:  There is an early dismissal on Friday, the 18th, and there is no school for a clerical day on Friday, October 25.

CONFIRMATION:  The parish ninth graders will be confirmed by Bishop Winter on Tuesday, October 15.  The ceremony is at 7 p.m. in the church.

PICTURE DAY:  School pictures will be taken on Wednesday, 10/9.  Students should wear dress clothes for the day.  Please keep in mind that solid colors work best and girls’ hair should be something that can easily be maintained throughout the day.  You will receive ordering information from the studio.

GRADES:  We will close grades for the first quarter on Thursday, 10/24.  Report cards will be sent home on Monday, 10/28.

PTG:  The PTG will sponsor classroom parties on the afternoon of 10/31.  This will be an Orange/Black dress down day.  And the very popular Fall Family Night is Friday, October 25.  You will receive more information on the event later in October.

ATHLETICS:  Our girls volleyball teams are having very successful games and you can find all their game dates posted on the website calendar.  Planning is underway for the basketball and cheer seasons that begin officially on October 15.  And, the ballots for the election for the new board members are due today; the results will be posted on the website as soon as they are counted.

SERVICE:  Recently, our eighth graders spent some time with the residents of Gracious Living.    The students and the residents both appreciated the time spent.  The class will go back on Wednesday, October 23.

TV MASS:  You might want to set your DVRs to record the shut-in Mass on October 6, PCNC, 6:00 a.m.  Some of our students will be the choir for the Mass.

ALEKS:   Is your child struggling in math??  All students in grades 3 through 8 have a user ID and Password for the ALEX math program.  According to the company’s research, students can increase math performance significantly if they spend at least one hour a week on the program and, of course, the more the better! Your child can use the program at home just by logging in at ALEKS.com. and it can be used on a tablet.  This is a great way for your child to use technology in a productive and safe way.  Your child should work through the levels alone if the concepts are to become acquired knowledge.

FYI:  This school year, we will again have the services of Bruce McGlothlin, a certified school counselor with the Non-Public School Program of the Allegheny Intermediate Unit.  He will be at Saint Anne weekly on Tuesdays.  Mr. McGlothlin provides individual and group counseling and classroom guidance to students in grades K-8.  Referrals may be made for academic, social, emotional or family issues and can be made by teachers or parents and guardians.  Information about these services can be obtained from Mr. McGlothlin or the school office.  Mr. M can be reached at 412-735-2000 on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

SAFETY REMINDER:  All visitors including parents should enter the school through the Willow Avenue Entrance and go directly to the office.  Please do NOT take advantage of doors that are opened for recess or dismissal.  While we are able to see all entrances by camera, we may not always recognize the person entering from the angle of the picture.  You could very well be the cause of a building lockdown! PLEASE COOPERATE with this request.  Also, do not hold the door open for anyone else who wants entry.  Those persons should also use the call box and identify themselves.  I’m sorry for this inconvenience to you, but your child’s safety is our first priority.

This is also a reminder to those parents who have building codes for other activities.  These should NOT be used during school hours.  People who ignore this request will no longer be given access to the code.

As always, I remind you that, if you have concerns, I can be reached at cjakubowski@saintanneschool.org or 412-561-7720.

Enjoy the beauty that God gives us during autumn!

 God bless you,

 Mrs. J
