Dear Parents,

Thank you for your support of our very successful Night at the Races.  We sold all of the horses and jockeys and it was the best attended we have had.

MAY/JUNE CALENDAR:  There is an early dismissal on Friday, May 10th and no school on May 21, Election Day.  School is closed on Memorial Day, May 27.

Also, we will dismiss at 11:30 on June 4, Tuesday, and our closing Mass will be Wednesday, June 5, at the church.  Dismissal for summer will be immediately after Mass from the church.  Buses will pick students up in the church lot.

FIRST COMMUNION:  Our second graders will receive First Communion either in the traditional group ceremony on May 5 or the family ceremony on May 12.  Please pray for these children on this very special day.

BAND:  Our band will combine with students from three other schools and participate in a travelling concert that will be held at each of the school on May 14.  The band will be here at 1:30.  Also, this same band will perform at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, at Saint Sylvester School.

ASCENSION THURSDAY:  The holyday Mass will be celebrated in the gym at 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 9.  The school May Crowning will be held following the Mass.

BIG RAFFLE:  The BIG raffle will be on Friday, May 17.  Thank you, Mrs. Saxon, for arranging this special event for the students as well as the monthly raffles.

CONFERENCES:  We do not have school on Tuesday, May 21, because elections are being held in the building.  However, teachers will be available and you may schedule an appointment to speak with them.  A form will be sent home before the 21st.

SOUTH PARK:  The annual picnic will be on Friday, May 24.  The students will be transported to and from the park by bus.  You will receive permission forms and information later in the month.  This is always such a fun time for the kids – although I am always relieved when they are all back in the building.

CLOSING CEREMONIES: Four year old Preschool has their closing ceremony on Wednesday, May 29, and the Kindergarten program is May 31.  The eighth grade will receive their certificates immediately following the four o’clock Mass on Saturday, June 1.

Congratulations to 8th grader Josh Gardner who was chosen to play on the all-star basketball team in the recent Roundball Tournament.  And, sixth grader, Paige Bowermaster, was the second place art winner in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Jackie Robinson Contest.  Paige received tickets to a game and was recognized at the park.  Several other students also were given game tickets for their entries.

Kennywood tickets will be available at the school on May 17.  The tickets are $24 each and only cash or money orders are accepted.

I hope to see you all at the Fair!  Have a wonderful summer.

 God bless,

Mrs. J
