January 30,2013

 Dear Parents,

Happy Catholic Schools Week!  It was really a pleasure to see all the special guests at lunch yesterday and I am certainly looking forward to the animals for this afternoon’s assembly and the doggie guests this evening.  Thank you to all the volunteers this week – you have made it very special for us all!

Today, registration forms for next year are being sent home; please return these ASAP.  Very soon, I will need to begin ordering next year’s textbooks and other supplies and the numbers are an important piece of this job.  Also, this year, I am sending you all an application for financial aid.  Before you assume you are not eligible, look over the income levels on the application.  You may be surprised.

ASH WEDNESDAY:  Lent will begin on Wednesday, February 13.  There will be a Mass in the gym at 9:00 a.m. with the distribution of ashes.

CALENDAR:  There is an early dismissal on Friday, February 15, at 11:30 and there is no school on Monday, February 18.  The teachers and I will be attending an anti-bullying workshop here at the school on both those days.

PICTURE DAY:  Spring pictures will be taken on Tuesday, February 26.  Students may dress down and, if they choose, bring some favorite toy or other item for these pictures.

ALERT SYSTEM:  Once again, I apologize for the mishaps last Monday – I’m still not sure what went wrong.  For now, we will continue to use all three modes of contact – text, voice and email – and hope you get at least one of them!

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS:  The parish committee has been planning some special events for 2014.  The parish will have its 125th anniversary and school will be 120!!  Plans are in place for a major parish celebration and for a special Mass celebrated by our graduate, Daniel Cardinal DiNardo.    The Cardinal’s picture is in the Plaza lobby and he has a great affection for and fond memories of our school.  It is VERY special to have our “own” Cardinal.

HELP:  As you can see, plans are in place to celebrate our school during the 2014 school year.  And yet, I continue to be amazed at the different versions of our future that I hear – some of them being expressed by our own parents.  This kind of talk is detrimental and discouraging.  No one is “in the know” and the only people you will hear future plans from are Father Bob or me.  And, right now, the plan is to celebrate our legacy – 120 years of service to the parish, the community, and the church.  All of you need to get that message out and discourage those who seem to have some inside information.  I assure you – they don’t!

And still to come this week…

Wednesday evening – Tail Waggin’ Tutors

Thursday:  4-8 Conferences and Winter Carnival

Friday:  K-3 Conferences and Rock and Jock

                            Eighth Grade Sports Recognition

DONUTS:  The Athletic Association and PTG will be making and selling donuts the weekend of 2/9 and 10.  Lots of work!!!!  The proceeds from the sale come to the school.  Help is always needed to make or sell.

See you at the fish fry!

 God bless,

 Mrs. J
