Dear Parents,

Spring will be here soon!  It will be great to not have to worry about the weather very early every morning.

MARCH CALENDAR:  There is an early dismissal on Friday, March 15, for a faculty meeting.  Also, Easter break begins at 11:30 on March 27 and school will reopen on Tuesday, April 2.

DRESS DOWN DAY:  Friday, March 1.  You have received a letter about this donation day.

SACRAMENTAL PROGRAM:  The second graders will receive Reconciliation for the first time on Wednesday, March 6.  There is also an Evening of Reflection on the Eucharist on Thursday, March 14.  Mrs. Grella has sent home this information.

Students in grades 3 through 8 will have the opportunity to go to Confession on Monday, March 18.

JA DAY:  Students from Duquesne University will present a variety of lessons to all grades on Thursday, March 14.  All Catholic elementary schools that participate in Junior Achievement education are eligible to have their students apply for the Cardinal Wuerl JA Scholarship to Catholic high schools.  We have had two of our students receive this scholarship over the last two years.

ACRE TESTING:  The standardized test of knowledge of religion will be given to students in grades 5 and 8 the week of March 18.

LIVING STATIONS:  Parish Middle School students will present the Living Stations at the church on March 25th.  Our students will walk to the church for the 1:00 p.m. presentation.

BASKETBALL PROGRAM:  Congratulations to both our boys and girls varsity teams for making it to the diocesan playoffs.  Also, our Instructional Team won second place in the recently held Presidents Day Tournament at our gym.  Go, Cyclones!

On Saturday, March 9, our teams will play alumni in both volleyball and basketball.  The volleyball begins at noon, girls at 2:00, and boys at 4:00.  Also, just before the girls game, the Athletic Association will honor “Uncle Dan” Richtar for his MANY years volunteering in the girls basketball program.  Mr. Richtar has been a gentle and inspiring presence for hundreds of our girls and we are fortunate to have him here.

LOOKING AHEAD:  Grades close on Wednesday, March 27, and report cards will be issued right after we return from the Easter break on April 2.  Please check the online grade book now to see your child’s status and review any outstanding assignments that may need to be turned in to teachers.

TUITION:  Tuition should be paid in full by May 10.  Eighth grade parents are reminded that grades will not be forwarded to the high schools until this obligation is fulfilled.  Also, for all grades, participation is extra activities may be prohibited if you have not made arrangements to become current.

HOLY WEEK:  Beginning with Passion Sunday, March 24, we celebrate the most solemn of times in the liturgical year.  Your children have been learning about the observances of the Passion, Holy Thursday, and Good Friday here at school.  Please make every effort to attend these observances at church.  Information on times will be found in the bulletin.

All of us at the school extend our wishes for a blessed, happy Easter!

 God bless,

Mrs. J
