Dear Parents:

Summer has moved MUCH too quickly - it’s time to think about back to school! This year, Miss Perrett is joining our faculty as the first grade teacher and Miss Nedzesky will be returning as the fifth grade homeroom teacher. Also, you may not be aware that Mrs. Gumina left as our cafeteria manager. Mrs. Battistone will be the new “lunch lady”. I hope many of you will be able to volunteer to help serve - the children love to see their parents here.

School will open on Thursday, August 23, for all students in grades 1 through 8. Students should gather on the Plaza NO earlier than 8:00 and they will enter the building at 8:10. It is very important that EVERY child know what means of transportation he/she will use for dismissal. (Kindergarten students will report on Monday and parents will receive a letter detailing their schedule.)

Thursday and Friday, 8/23, 24, are half days and dismissal will be at 11:30. Students may dress down on both Thursday and Friday - but please make sure that clothes are appropriate for school. Girls’ shorts must be a reasonable length and tank, crop, and low cut tops are not permitted. Boys’ clothing should not be oversized and shorts should not hang below the waist. Tops should have appropriate logos and wording and they should have sleeves. Socks should be worn.

will be on Friday, September 7, at 9:00. If weather permits students in grades 2 through 8 will walk to church. All students should report to school at the regular time and accompany their class. If there is some medical reason that your child needs special transportation, please notify the office before that date.

The school office will be open in the mornings throughout August. Please call if you have any question, 412-561-7720.

The oldest child in each family will be given the first home mailing on the first day of school. This information is relevant to the school year and parents are reminded to review it carefully. Sign and return the envelope and necessary responses as soon as possible. This envelope will be sent home each Wednesday as needed.

We will continue to offer the lunch program and I am pleased to say the full-price lunches will remain at $2.50. You will receive information in the first take-home envelope of the year.

Morning and after school care will begin August 27. A form is included in the opening envelope. Parents who use morning care should enter on Willow Avenue and report to the office. After school, students are picked up in the gym/cafeteria.

All bus schedules are determined by the public district of residence. Bus passes indicating time and stop for students in Keystone Oaks and Bethel Park will be sent to our office before the opening of school. All other districts will notify parents by mail. Busing will be available from the opening day.

Please maintain a routine in the way your child is being transported home from school. It is extremely difficult to accommodate all changes and your child’s safety is our first concern. Changes should be made in writing to the child’s homeroom teacher. Also, it is very important that your child knows what to do if he/she arrives home unexpectedly and no one is there. This is always possible in the event of an emergency dismissal. In cases of severe weather, public districts may opt to send buses with very little forewarning.

With the twelve month schedule, the first payment was due on June 10. Parents who opted to remain on the ten month schedule are reminded that their first payment will be due on August 10.

Under NO circumstances are students permitted to carry ANY medication - prescribed or over-the-counter. All medications, including inhalers, must be kept in the school office. The appropriate parent and physician release forms must be on file in the office and these forms must be renewed each school year. The forms will be found in the handbook that will be sent home the first day.

The dress code is under Parent Information on our website.

Students in grades 2 through 8 will be given a daily planner. The cost of these planners is $5.00 and, if you can help by assuming that cost for your child, it will be greatly appreciated.

Students are to be dropped off and picked up ONLY on the Plaza. If you arrive after the Plaza Entrance is closed, you should park in the lot and accompany the student to the main entrance. This is an issue of the children’s safety and while it may be inconvenient for you, it is necessary.

This is the only hardcopy of the monthly newsletter you will receive. All others, along with monthly menus and other relevant information, will be posted on our - so don’t forget to look there!

Enjoy the last few weeks of summer. Please don’t hesitate to call if you have any questions. And, believe it or not, I look forward to the children’s return! God bless!
